What do you want to be when you grow up?
It’s the question Le Sueur-Henderson students answer in the GIANT$ Reality Challenge, a LSH High School and Le Sueur Rotary partnership. Students research a career interest, the education required to get a job in that field, and the income they can expect to earn. The GIANT$ Reality Challenge helps students apply what they have learned in economics and personal finance classes. Rotarians share tips on career preparation before the event.
What is the goal of the GIANT$ Reality Challenge?
The goal is to apply the concepts learned in class to create a household budget given a chosen career. Rotarians, school staff, and community volunteers lead students through this class activity. Everyone gathers in the school gym at the end of the semester to discuss housing, transportation, personal finance, groceries, insurance, entertainment, daycare, pets, and unplanned expenses. Students must have a balanced budget to complete the challenge. They can’t spend more than they earn.
